Our City - Small But Mighty

Stoke-on-Trent is the 13th largest city in the UK. We may be small but we are mighty and we’re already rapidly outstripping a number of parts of the UK with our economic growth and recovery.

This is a city with a strong sense of civic pride - we’ve been voted the kindest city in the UK – where there is absolute commitment to delivering the best outcomes for all of our residents to allow them to thrive and access the opportunities our city has to offer, and support the most vulnerable to lead independent and fulfilling lives. It’s a place where you’ll receive a hugely warm welcome.

We are determined to recover from the impact of the coronavirus outbreak as rapidly as possible and we are well positioned to do so with a diverse economic base and affordable land and assets.

With determination, hard work and commitment, we’re delivering a number of improvements across the city. We have a thriving Enterprise Zone, creating many jobs and drawing serious levels of inward investment. We have an enviable track record in delivering large numbers of new homes on brownfield sites. We have delivered the first complete gigabit-enabled full fibre digital network in the country. And we are using culture, our wonderful heritage and our beautiful green spaces to bring economic opportunity and improved quality of life.

Our Projects

Most recently, we have secured £56m in Levelling Up funding, one of the largest government investments in Stoke-on-Trent in many years. This money will support regeneration in three hugely significant projects to bring about real improvements to the city and enabling our local economy to grow for decades to come. The Chancellor in his address hailed Stoke-on-Trent as ‘a great city’ – this allocation shows that government has confidence in our ability to deliver.

It has also been confirmed that we’ve been successful in six of our bids to help further level up our communities across Stoke-on-Trent to the value of over £2.5m through the Community Renewal Fund.

We received £29 million from the government’s Transforming Cities Fund, to help us revolutionise the city’s transport network and how residents get around which includes a dramatic revamp of the area around Stoke-on-Trent train station.

While this snapshot doesn’t get across the true extent of the exciting regeneration and development that’s happening here, these initiatives clearly show this is a city that’s on the up and one where you can truly be part of something innovative and diverse, with lots of inspiring opportunities for those residents we serve.
