The roles

Director of Repairs & Maintenance Service – Housing, Regeneration and Operations

At Stoke-on-Tent City Council we are more than just a landlord, we are a partner in building strong, safe and thriving communities.  Our tenants deserve warm, well-maintained homes and we are committed to delivering a responsive and high-quality repairs and maintenance service that meets their needs.  We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Director to lead our housing repairs and maintenance services, ensuring efficiency, cost-effectiveness and most importantly deliver an excellent service to our 18,000 tenants. You will have significant experience of leading high-performing housing repairs and maintenance teams, as well as the leadership skills to forge new services and deliver our ambitions.

We are looking for a strategic and community-focused director who is passionate about social housing, communities and tenant empowerment to lead the service to ensure every home we manage meets the highest standards of safety, sustainability and comfort.

The successful candidate will be someone who can translate our strategic vision and priorities into operational plans, possesses a track record of delivering service improvements and driving cultural change, has a strong knowledge of housing legislation, landlord responsibilities, health and safety compliance and delivery of  long-term plans for asset management, preventative maintenance and service delivery.  As Director of Repairs and Maintenance Service, you will have excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire and develop teams.  We will consider people from all backgrounds and specialisms, but it is essential that you are experienced in managing corporate stock, implementing long-term facilities management strategies and committed to listening to tenants and ensuring that services are shaped by their needs.

Stoke-on-Trent city council is insourcing its wholly owned repairs company back into the council, which provides a unique and timely opportunity for the new Director of Repairs and Maintenance to use their experience and knowledge to lead, shape and transform the service to meet the needs of our tenants as well as our statutory and regulatory obligations in a dynamic and supportive environment.  This is an exciting opportunity to make a real impact in our communities by improving the quality of housing, strengthening tenant relationships and delivering a service that residents can trust.

Finally, as a member of the council’s senior management team, you will provide confident, visible, strategic and values-led leadership and direction. You will develop and maintain appropriate relationships with diverse stakeholders, including elected members, customers, council officers, local communities, businesses, Government departments, and other external agencies. You will maximise capacity and pool resources wherever possible. You will act as an ambassador for the council, promoting and enhancing the authority’s image as a Member-led authority ambitious for the city. You will support the formation of strategic alliances and develop effective working relationships at local, regional and national levels.
